Presentation of ENSPÉcole nationale supérieure de paysage and EMiLAEuropean Master in Landscape Architecture

École nationale supérieure de paysage has educated landscape architects since 1974 at the historical site of the Potager du Roi in Versailles on the demand of the French Ministry of Agriculture. Over these past decades, the school has created a significant corpus of landscape architects capable of answering to urban, suburban and rural questions and to the multiplying challenges of the environmental crisis on all scales of the landscape architectural project. ENSPÉcole nationale supérieure de paysage offers a wide range of educational programs on Bachelor, Master and Doctoral-levels. The core program leads to an internationally (IFLA) recognised Master’s Degree named DEPDiplôme d'État de Paysagiste (Diplôme d'Etat de Paysagiste - State Diploma in Landscape Architecture) and some 70 students successfully graduate from this program on a yearly basis. In the DEPDiplôme d'État de Paysagiste program, 50% of teaching is design-orientated; the other 50% deals with four major multi-disciplinary fields: social sciences, ecology, techniques and arts. The school has 40 permanent teachers and around 300 supply teachers coming from professional practice. ENSPÉcole nationale supérieure de paysage also has a research laboratory, LAREPLaboratoire de recherche en projet de paysage, with 40 multi-disciplinary researchers working on diverse landscape issues. LAREPLaboratoire de recherche en projet de paysage offers a PhD in Landscape Architecture Sciences and has 20 PhD candidates.

EMiLA (European Master in Landscape Architecture) is a two-year master’s curriculum created in 2014 by five leading European universities and schools of landscape architecture; AHK Amsterdam, ESALA Edinburgh, ETSAB Barcelona, LUH Hannover and ENSPÉcole nationale supérieure de paysage Versailles Marseille. The aim of this Master program is to foster students to be more aware of the European dimensions in landscape at policy level as well as at large/territorial-scale through design practice. The curriculum also offers the students an unique opportunity to learn from other universities' pedagogic methods, while enabling them to begin building their own future professional network in an international context.
